The Big Event Epiphany Improbabilístico

Serfis entered the room, barely lit, and found in Karad outpost, sitting in front of the container containing one hundred cubic gas particles, and particles emitted a dim yellow light.
- Nothing? Serfis asked, approaching, it will relieve his friend played.
"Nothing," Karad.
Karad Both breathed deeply as he rose from his seat and sat Serfis in place.
"You know that the odds are very low Serfis said," but sooner or later occur. Just have faith.
- Do not have the impression that we live in vain, friend Serfis?
- In vain? Karad, but what you think! He turned, looking at his friend.
- Do you know which generation of guards of the Grand Cube us Karad asked.
scratched Serfis head.
"Yes, I know. The number 319790.
"And in less than a century relieved us and we may never see the Big Event Improbabilístico. We will die without reaching the glory that so many generations have dreamed!
- Karad ... nobody disputes the decision of the Great Scientist! He decided at the beginning of time, which would be monitored when the Big Event is filed Improbabilístico!
The two were so distracted in the discussion that did not pay attention when, in the Grand Cube Improbabilístico Big Event happened: the hundred gas particles moved into the top half of the large cube and for a time occupied the region. The probability that all occupy the site was raised to half a hundred, a very very small, and time for that to happen was almost an eternity.
particles disperse again.
Serfis turned to keep watching.
"Our duty is to watch the Grand Cube forever," he said, without seeing Karad.
There are already spent nearly 32 million years since all this started, and should not take the day the Big Event Improbabilístico occurs. I'm sorry, friend Serfis, because my faith has wavered. Just ... I think the system would greatly surveillance cameras installed ...
And he was right.

"The age of majority and the alleged discrimination is a fact associated with legal and judicial, but by no means a scientific one.

human discernment is not a faculty possessed by the character constant, but is a permanent situation and fluctuations in the human mind, whose variables are modified and change influenced by factors of space-time and depending on the social system that the individual is embedded in a given time, being the "emotional control" the "social group" has on it will determine the degree of presence of discernment, being dropped or smooth and simple in its absence in the "modalities increased" from "emotion-altering" or "stabilizing" or called by the Nobel laureate Walter Hess, brain researcher "mode and trofotropo ergotropic."

From this, it is a fact of science and developed in modern times by Galina Solovey and Anatole Milechnin in scientific hypnosis, we can infer that we exercise the law and intend to defend the rights of individuals, not on evidence objective science, but grounded in obscurantism and barbarism of prejudice. Understanding this

by prosecutors and judges, it is essential to adequately address the problem of destructive sectarian groups.

It seems difficult to achieve this in our judicial systems, probably some of the most powerful known sectarian systems and comply with each and every one of its cancellation terms of the individual and their free thinking.

freedom can only be exercised from science and from no belief. "JCB

Positive Thinking: The Dark Side of 'Felicilandia' (The Secret and others)

A book analyzes the current self-help ultraliberal triumphs in the U.S.. The secret 'bible of the movement, is three years into the bestseller list in Spain

"The alternative to optimism is realism"

Lost your job? Having trouble making ends meet? Need money urgently? Do not worry: all your problems are almost solved. The money, of course, but also physical and emotional . And not only that. Not content to leave the hole you? Want to win ten million dollars without blinking an eye? That is fact. All you need is to practice positive thinking, wish it would rain money with all their might, to imagine that everything will be phenomenal.

Smile or die, essay by Barbara Ehrenreich, published by Turner, delves into the world of positive thinking, philosophy between marketing and self-help that is raging in the U.S.. And in Spain: The Secret (Urano, 2007), by Rhonda Byrne, the bible of the movement, is now serving three years among the bestsellers. Currently ranks fifth on the bestseller list nonfiction. Sum 165 weeks of permanency. A historical record.

Byrne says you only need to want to become a millionaire

The secret to which the title refers is the "law of attraction." The idea that thoughts influence the lives ... brought to a climax. Byrne says that thoughts can "materialize objects," whatever comes in life is because you have attracted, "and if things go wrong is because you have not liked you best.

Byrne's recipes, which collects tens Dating guru of positive thinking, straight out the perfect manual CrecePelo seller. "Hundreds of people have used The Secret to amass large fortunes" and curing "chronic pain." One only needs to "express their wishes about perfect homes, partners, cars, jobs and promotions" to become reality. And a little effort you can "attract up to ten million dollars." Hurray!

In fact, you just have to concentrate a little to get a fireball, a mansion in Miami or a private aircraft. Because your "only difference with the rich" is that they "use the right thought to attract wealth." The defeatists, therefore, are not welcome in the millionaire world of Felicistán, because "every thought, feeling or emotion negative blocks that good comes to you, that includes the money."

"He's more ideological force of mood"

One of those in The Secret, the philosopher and personal coach Bob Proctor, fulminating in a single sentence XX centuries of studies on social inequalities to ensure the following: "Why do you think that 1% of the population earns about 96% of the money in the world and do you think is coincidence? It is because they understand something. Understand 'The Secret'. And you're being introduced to it. "Social classes do not exist, therefore, rather than mental state.

diving Smile or die in the books that say that positive thinking can" attract "the dibs. Books with titles so foolish as Think and Grow Rich, Wealth beyond reason or Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv where a feverish Eker and instructed his readers: "Get a hand on his heart and say: bless rich people! " I love rich people! " I'm going to be one of those people rich ".

Ehrenreich says that being positive is not so much a "state of mind as a cultural and ideological force" that encourages us to "denying reality" and "blame ourselves for what fate brings." The key word is, therefore, ideology. Because positive thinking has become the favorite spiritual power of American capitalism. A symbiosis which has led to cultural and religious revolution in America.

has become the favorite spiritual power of capitalism

Preachers SA

Protestant Calvinism, capitalism's traditional ally, called for work to suppress the collapse and pleasure. His philosophy fit with productive capitalism, but not at the current stage of consumerism. "The consumer culture encourages individuals to want more and positive thinking is there to remove to tell everyone that he deserves more, and you can get it if you really want," he reasons Ehrenreich, who believes that this philosophy upholds the cruelest aspects "of the free market. For example, culpabilizarte dismissal. "If your business fails or you lose your job, it will be because you are not trying hard enough because you did not believe strongly enough in your own success was inevitable. "

Positive thinking has eaten ground traditional Calvinism what the essayist calls" silent battle for market dominance, the television audience, book sales and attendance at churches. "popular preachers in the U.S. are now positive thinking gurus. In his sermons no longer speak of sin," or expand on the two workhorses of the Christian Right: abortion and homosexuality. "Nor do they mention episodes so little exciting as the crucifixion or the flames of hell. The twenty-first century catechism seems rather a guide to line accelerated at all costs. "What is offered is the promise money, health and success in life right now or very soon ".

Their temples," in which there are almost crosses "are the so-called megachurches. 1,210 temples scattered around the country with capacities gigantic 4.4 million customers. The numbers here are critical because, as Ehrenreich has some of the most successful pastors (R. Schuller, R. Warren and B. Hybels) commissioned market research before building your churches. "The positive message not only sold better with the public that religion before it was ever more personally relevant to the preachers, no longer considered critical of the secular world and materialistic, but businessmen. "Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church (Houston), is called the" most influential Christian in America ". In 1999 it bought the Compaq Center, former Houston Rockets Stadium, to transform it into a church than 16,000 locations. He says he managed to buy it because "managed to watch it." I began to see "our congregation praising God at Compaq," he says. "Freedom from thinking small, and start thinking like God. Think big. Think more. Think abundance, "Osteen calls his parishioners.

subprime

Positive thinking was "ubiquitous" the past decade. "He had no rival in American culture," says Ehren-reich. Larry King and Oprah Winfrey as advertised on TV. And The Secret has become a phenomenon called to treat "the bills as if they were checks." The battle cry when you saw "the car of your dreams" was: "I can afford it! I can buy it!" Roared Byrne. The ideology of spending spree without worrying about the consequences (pulirte your entire life savings was not the surest route to poverty but to wealth) spread like wildfire.

The traditional American optimism ("our disposal to borrow up to their necks and keep spending is closely related to optimism, "according to economist Robert Reich) reached crazy levels. The cheap credit began to flow. People who had never agreed to a managed loan [subprime mortgages accounted for 40% of the total in 2006], but "the credulity and optimism of the citizens do not fully explain the financial crisis," said Ehrenreich. The fever also affected the sales of mortgages, which grew rich by selling debt to poor quality investors.

The epidemic of self-deception "typical of the bubbles are launched." Corporations changed rationality depressing professional management by the emotional appeals of mysticism, charisma and hunches, "says Ehrenreich. The essayist interviewed Eric Dezenhall, a Republican who worked in the Rea-gan Administration and works as a crisis manager." Dezenhall, to which companies turn to when things get ugly, he said he believed that managers had come to believe the "law of attraction" of positive thinking. "They believe it. Multinationals can be ruthless when it comes to making money, but as for realism. "

neoliberal Buzz

Angelo Mozilo, chairman of the mortgage Countrywide Mortgage, which "granted loans so crazy that you can consider herself kicked out of the crisis of subprime mortgages," received the 2004 Horatio Alger Award for being a "person of humble origin" who had achieved the American dream based on "work, willpower and positive thinking."

Adam Michaelson, mate of Countrywide, said in a recent book that the company had an "attitude as a sect", with palm clashes between managers and gurus talk of positive thinking to motivate staff . In 2004, Michaelson doubted that home prices would rise forever. "You know why. You worry too much, "he said." One runs many risks when it does not fit into an environment like that so feverishly enthusiastic, "confessed Michaelson.

Ehrenreich provides accounts of executives who were harassed by implying that there was no physical law that prevented that house prices go down. Ivy Zelman, an analyst at Credit Suisse, said he "lost clients because of his pessimism, but he could not pretend that all was well." "A who expressed negative ideas aloud he was dismissed, "he said banking analyst Steve Eisman.

" This is the mental state that promote the apostles of thought positive. Senior executives, perhaps somewhat cynically promoted it among their subordinates, giving them motivational books or inviting them to conferences at which they talked about visualizing success, to work more and complain less. The problem is that they came to believe it, and so, within a very short time, about three trillion dollars held in pension plans and savings accounts evaporated in the same ether in which all our positive thoughts float "Ehrenreich ditch.

Brown Discharge And Ovarian Cysts

The April 12, 1633 Galileo was accused of heresy by the Inquisition. Also April 12, 50 years ago, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, aboard Vostok I, becomes the first human to orbit Earth.

see, my brain is so timeless that a few days ago when a friend who also studied physics, told me that a cosmonaut would give a lecture, I thought it would be Yuri Gagarin himself who would come. She said she had seen on a poster. Then I ran, very excited, out of the library where I was, to read that sign. As I looked, I thought, "Yuri, here in Mexico?, But should give the conference in Russia!". I could not find the poster at first but I was stuck next to the cafeteria, and I read to see if they had the name of Yuri Gagarin. He had only vague indications. Suddenly, something clicked in my brain. Then, calm way, I went to the library, I approached the table where I was with my friend and said,

"I just fell into account that Yuri is dead, and then I sat.

If you think this is funny, try to live a day with me, haha.

But of course, Yuri died very young, just 34 years. He died while piloting a fighter jet, with a passenger.

cosmonaut conference today was another, Nikolai M. Budarin. Budarin is a graduate of Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) and has traveled as a flight engineer in the missions STS-71/MIR-19, SOYUZ TM-21, ISS-06 and has been eight spacewalks. Unfortunately I was late to the conference and not heard him speak. I only saw when some men associated with the aerospace industry in Mexico talked about the cooperation that Mexico has with other countries such as Taiwan, Russia and Vietnam, and was glad to know that there are several projects in which my country is involved.

In the not too distant 1961, cuando hizo historia a bordo del Vostok I, Yuri dijo estas palabras: flybys of Earth in a ship-satellite, I saw how beautiful our planet. People will keep and increase this beauty, not destroy it! Que traducidas al español would be something like: "Orbiting the Earth in the spaceship, I see how beautiful our planet is. Settlers, preserve and increase this beauty, not destroy it!"

No doubt had he lived at the time of the Vostok I, which was temporary Gagarin, or the Apollo missions, had followed every step we took, with great courage, glued to the TV to radio and newspapers, but currently have a pessimistic view on the media, but these are other times.

Oh, and also a day like today, another 12 April but in 1991, 20 years ago, was born the author of this blog, obsessive compulsive student of physics and attempted science fiction writer, Damian Osorio Neri.

Chip says, "hu Huuu ahuu aaaa!"
This entry also join in the Yuriesfera , which celebrates the year of Yuri Gagarin. In the Yuriesfera find information about this man and the mission in which he participated. I invite you to visit.

April 1912 Predictions and Science Fiction

a couple of days ago I bought a new book of stories of Science Fiction, Worlds to eat, the Fawcett World Library, edited by Damon Knight. In the introduction I found an interesting text on the predictions, then science fiction (not all, almost always about hard science fiction, but also describes a society) is reputed to be prophetic in many ways. I quote (is a translation of the original itself. Take note that it is a text , 1967):

The Science Fiction and the prophecies are two different things. Nobody paid attention to this statement. (This is a prediction, but it is a false prophecy, Type A.) The writers of the day will go directly to ask the authors of Science Fiction how will life in 2000, and a few authors will tell you that we affable libraries computerized clothing available for all purposes, grass, wall to wall in our departments, and so on, as if it were known. But no.

some Demos definitions. A prediction , say, is a statement about the future. A prophecy is a prediction that would be amazing if it became true. If, for example, a fortune hunter, or someone "sensitive", correctly predicts the outcome of all congressional elections in a year elective or the final standings of teams in major league baseball, that should be amazing - and would be a prophecy. (But hold your breath.)

The false prophecies are more common and are broken into five categories:

  • A . Predictions of high probability. Example: "The sun will rise in the east tomorrow." (This is the easy way, but no money in it.)
  • B . Predictions scatter-gun (do not know how to translate that.) If there is only a limited number of possibilities and you predict all of them, you can not win. (You could not stop losing, but never mind. Follow him reminding people and make them forget the successes and failures. )
  • C . Vague predictions. (Because they were used in the Oracle of Delphi.) Make your predictions vague, general, and ambiguous as much as possible, and if something happens that is tailored, you are a prophet.
  • D . "Predictions" of things that have already occurred. (Verne's submarine belongs to them.)
  • E . Predictions that influence the results. (As if we told a nervous golfer: "Look, Harry. Your attitude is all wrong, you get a bad rap.")

Almost all science fiction predictions belong to these five types. In other words, are false prophecies.

But Cleve Cartmill what happens to that predicted the atomic bomb with such detail that the FBI came to John W. Campbell, the editor who published the story? What about Jules Verne described quite accurately the periscope could not be patented then? Well, both stories are myths. Cartmill's story describes a general and vaguely atomic bomb. The details he gave were wrong. And as Campbell told the FBI: Science fiction writers have used atomic bombs in their stories from The World Set Free by HG Wells (1914). As with the periscope, Verne never mentioned in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea , the Nautilus had none.

Cartmill's predictions have elements of types B and D. For Verne, I think we should add a type F: predictions exist.

Now back to the Type E, which is the most interesting and least understood. Forty years ago and more, science fiction writers used to say "the man on the Moon", and today looks like a stunning prophecy. What they were really saying, are however, was something slightly different and more significant: "Man can reach the moon if strongly desires. "This is a prediction type A, the easy way. But it is also a prediction of type E, and here, finally, we come to something that I think science fiction writers should be justly proud.

What science fiction has been doing for the last forty years is stirring the way people think, making them more skeptical of dogma, get them used to the idea of \u200b\u200bchange, dare to let go for new things. Nobody probably will never know how much effect these stories have had, but it is almost impossible not to have had any effect.

To scientists and engineers of today, who would not like their counterparts in forty years, tend to say "Why not?" instead of "It's impossible!" And then we have airplanes without wings, mammals breathe underwater, three color photographs made from negatives of two colors, and televised images from the moon.

Chile Shame: Former Senator Jorge Lavandero talked about the "looting of Chile's copper"

Former Senator Jorge Lavandero presented the results of their investigations into what he calls "the looting of Chile's copper." The former MP stressed the importance of publicizing the issue in public opinion to break the media silence that round red metal and fight for the defense of Chilean heritage.

On Tuesday April 5 at the bookstore Le Monde Diplomatique , former Senator Jorge Lavandero presented his research "The theft of copper in all Chileans."

This talk reveals evidence of looting of the mineral Red made by multinationals in the past 25 years, with the complicity of employers and authorities.

To Lavandero is a true commitment "to inform" the citizens of what is happening because the media do not.

According to him, "[...] copper is the hidden track on the media and public discussion. [...] Is not something casual but carefully planned [for] its operation can be made in the peace of silence. "

The former senator said that " Chile is potentially one of the richest countries in the world ", so" I can not keep quiet [because] we live in a society much more fair with this wealth, if only they knew the Chileans, "he added.

PRIVATIZATION OF CHILEAN RESOURCES

copper Privatization was carried out under the governments of the Concertación and was not the work of José Piñera during the time of the Pinochet dictatorship , as one can assume, he said.

These governments gave the green light to multinationals. "It have taken over most of our copper [...] leading to a global overproduction, the price collapsed and destroyed the country in substantial revenue from this sector withdrew, "said Lavandero.

Former senator gave the example of the mining agreement with Argentina . When he was voted in Congress, most lawmakers agreed that Argentine judges have jurisdiction over Chilean territory and authorized to approve a mining concession and transit for the company to remove Pascua Lama in Chile Argentine deposits .

WEALTH CHILEAN AND THE "LOOTING"

Knowing the numbers that measure the wealth of Chile, it is understood that the privatization of copper has a huge impact on the "looting" the country's resources .

Lavandero said that "[...] the country [Chile] represents only 0.25% of the land surface. However, in this tiny percentage of the planet is concentrated 37% of world copper reserves. Chile copper is what OPEC (11 countries in total!) Is to oil. " It

often said that Codelco (state enterprise) does not benefit the State Chile, and that it is better to privatize it, to get better performance of the copper.

However, the figures speak: Codelco operates 28% of copper, of which 75% of profits go to the state. For their part, private companies operate 72% of copper, of which 25% is delivered to the State. "It will not be an economist to say that we are stealing," Lavandero was outraged.

He added that one third of production, Codelco pay 40% of state tax Chile, which generates 10 billion dollars. With two thirds of production, private companies pay 10% tax and 2,500 million dollars to the treasury, "which equates to a deficit of 17,500 million dollars to the state every year."

LOAD OF TAXATION

tax burden on mining companies in Latin America varies between 14.8% and 37.6%. "Chile has the lowest burden of the continent [even lower than Canada or United States], with 14.8%. "And companies do not pay, "snapped the ex-senator.

Lavandero revealed that "between 1995 and 2003, of the 57 private companies in the Chilean territory, only one has paid the tax and other sporadic, the remaining 55, did not pay anything, ever. [...] And that he knows all Senate, the entire Congress, the entire Executive "he added.

"Even Thatcher or Reagan had allowed" he said.

To avoid paying these taxes, companies "are implemented every possible subterfuge." One of these is based on the fact that in Chile, to pay taxes to national income, companies have to declare profits. Then "good management results in poor state profits, or lost."

Lavandero necessary advocates a "new form of taxation that can not be evaded." proposes royalty as "just compensation to the removal of one ton of ore that is lost forever, as the royalty is in addition to tax, the price charged ore.

WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH THE LOOTING?

According to the former authority, "copper or controlled by nationalizing private companies, the Chilean government could count with 30,000 million dollars a year!".

With this money could develop a better and fairer life for Chileans. "Every family would receive a house Chilean absolutely free when you spend 18,700 million to 7 million 200 thousand houses totaling 1.000UF. It could deliver 400 thousand pesos per month to retirees. Young people may have a good and free education for everyone, from elementary to professional or technical level. You could develop a good health care and free up to 500 thousand pesos each year. And finally a million and a half of small industrialists and artisans could receive a 20-year loan of 20 million pesos, without interest. "

So why expropriate 20% of Codelco as proposed Piñera in his political campaign? According Laundry, this suggestion was made by a former minister of economy and mining.

In 2002, Codelco generated 198 tons of copper. Knowing that a pound of copper on the metals market is worth, for example, 3.0 U $, the state company would have generated a billion dollars. "How many is 20% of a billion? Much more than the income from the sale. "In addition, today's copper to 4.27 per pound."

In his view, what Chile needs is "a policy of large-scale mining of copper, giving added value to our natural resources and refine copper in Chile, close the tax gap, establishing a true royalty, and require transparency in the foreign investment committee. "

added that we must "look to the future." He raised the example of electric cars that need lithium battery , and the second largest exporter of lithium Chile. Hence the need to "be attentive to what is going to deal in this sector," he said.

Mr Angry and Mrs Calm

Lately I'm a bit busy with other things, and these days I will go something missing from the Internet, but I found this, which I found very curious and wanted to share with you.

Aude Oliva has done work related curious illusions. She is a researcher at MIT. The following is a hybrid image that the doctor has designed. The left image shows an angry man and the right of a woman with her face calm. But stand back a few feet of the image (or decrease the size of the image) and things will change. I found this great illusion.

The next illusion is similar and also depends on the distance from which we are watching. About a bicycle but the shadows are intended to form another image.

In the following, the expressions of women change if we remove the image.

I think it's great as the distance the images appear to be modified. On this page you can see more of his work, including some videos (there is one in which Albert Einstein becomes Marilyn Monroe). You will also find information related to Dr. Oliva .

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said

When Philip K. Dick, one of the teachers Science Fiction (in the world of science fiction is a special distinction award is the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master, which honors those who are considered the top exhibitors in the genre, but Phil never received this award), began to hear the English composer's music s. XVI, John Dowland, which included the beautiful sound of the countertenor voice and lute, fell in love with her, and even considered his most interesting music discovery, beyond the early 70's. Flow my tears was his favorite aria and all who were received at home made them listen.

It was not so paranoid after all. Phil then thought he was looking manuscript Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said . The novel (which I have not read yet) describes a drug (a common occurrence in the work of Phil) which causes loss of any reference to other people, the main character suddenly wakes up and no one recognizes, does not exist for others, although the day above has had a radio program heard by 30 million people. Phil recalled that she had told one person about this novel, and he suspected that the man was a CIA agent. The man in question said he had a secret drug called LSD derived mello jello I had very similar effects to the drug of your manuscript. Why he believed they had tried to steal, without finding what they sought, as the unfinished manuscript was in the hands of his agent and they could not carry.

In honor of Philip K. Dick, Stuart Hamm musician released an album, their debut album in 1988, six years after the death of the writer, entitled Radio Free Albemuth , the title of another of Phil's novels. The album contains a song titled the same name and other Flow my tears. It was recorded in collaboration with Allan Holdsworth and Joe Satriani. Flow my tears In Joe Satriani is one who plays guitar and Stuart Hamm bass.

And finally the piece by John Dowland, who was so fond of Phil, played by German countertenor Andreas Scholl, who is the interpretation which I liked.

Flow, my tears, fall from your springs,
Exiled for ever, let me mourn
Where night's black bird her sad infamy sings,
There let me live forlorn.

Down vain lights, shine you no more
No nights are dark enough for those
That in despair their lost fortunes deplore.
Light doth but shame disclose.

Never may my woes be relieved,
Since pity is fled;
And tears and sighs and groans my weary days
Of all joys have deprived.

From the highest spire of contentment
My fortune is thrown;
And fear and grief and pain for my deserts
Are my hopes, since hope is gone.

Hark! you shadows That dwell in darkness,
Learn to Condemn light
Happy, happy in hell They That
Feel Not the world's Despit.
